They recorded the single "Whisky in the jar" and "Black Boys on the Corner" at Decca Studio 4, Tollington Park" in October 1972

3rd November 1972 "Whisky in the jar" is released. The song was originally recorded as an impromptu filler track based on an old Irish traditionell song, merely to be used as the B-side of their next single. But their label Decca Records insisted on making it the A-side. It was Ted Carolls idea to record the song.

Lizzy re-promoted Whisky in the jar with free whisky to DJ´s in UK
It was Chris O´Donnell´s idea of sending out miniature bottles of irish "Power´s whisky" with "Whisky In The Jar" stamped on the label to a few people such as DJ´s. Soon after the single was a hit. The DJ´s were sent a special 3 minute version of the song.
